HECTOR CURRIEL

Hector Curriel is a professional artist born in Lima, Peru, who now calls Sioux Falls home.  As a watercolor expert, cartoonist, and book illustrator, Hector will offer students, the opportunity to learn and practice in these areas.

During the residency, Hector teaches the process of creating an artwork based on methods and techniques that will provide students with basic knowledge to help them with their creativity in the artistic subject matter.

For the past nine years, Hector has worked for many newspapers, and magazines as an editorial cartoonist, and also as a book illustrator, and fine artist.  One of the books he illustrated, Saving Up Smiles for a Rainy Day, is the winner of the Midwest Book Award 2013. He is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators and The National Cartoonists Society. He is also an accomplished school presenter and holds frequent art workshops. He lives and has his studio in Sioux Falls, SD.
