Amber Zora
Amber Zora is a visual artist based in Rapid City. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art from University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography + Integrated Media from Ohio University.
Amber has taught darkroom and digital photography at the college level and has instructed cumulative watercolor classes for adults and K-12 students. She enjoys working with watercolors and inks because the medium is portable, lightweight, easy to store, affordable, and rich in history.
Amber has exhibited her work in local and national galleries including the San Francisco Arts Commission, the Las Vegas Contemporary Art Center and the National Veterans Art Museum, among other notable spaces.
Amber's residency programs may include:
Exploring Nature Through Watercolors: Learn to observe the natural world by building a color wheel, mastering brush and water control, studying plants and landscapes, creating watercolor backgrounds and washes, and transferring graphite sketches onto watercolor paper.
Ink Lines and Storytelling: Discover the art of sumi ink through water control for tonal variation, brush precision, positive and negative space, Gestalt principles, and creating a one-page comic.
Digital Photography Basics: Gain foundational photography skills, including composition, editing techniques, digital manipulation, and printing.
Block Printing with Styrofoam: Explore printmaking techniques by designing, carving, and printing images using Styrofoam blocks, focusing on texture, pattern, and composition.
Cyanotype Printing: Experiment with this historic photographic process by creating blue-toned prints using sunlight, stencils, and natural objects like leaves and flowers.
