Jenny Menzel is an established visual artist, graphic designer, published author, and content writer with a focus on branding, marketing, and graphite realism. As a brand designer and visual storyteller, Jenny leverages the visual arts to effectively communicate ideas, values, and identities. Whether teaching graphic design, photography, or drawing, she emphasizes the power of communication through the use of color, shapes, words, composition, and space.
During her residency, Jenny will work with students, educators, and community members on a project of their choice that can include drawing, photography, or digital design. Step by step, Jenny will use the custom event or project of choice as an example, taking participants from concept to completion— educating them on basic design principles, different advertising avenues, and how to refine their message into an impactful product.
Building confidence is at the core of Jenny’s teaching approach. When it comes to visual arts, such as graphic design and drawing complex subjects like realistic graphite portraits, a lack of confidence is often the only hindrance. Jenny’s method breaks down what can feel like an intimidating task into manageable steps. By the end of the residency, many participants who initially said “I can’t” often find themselves saying “I did!” Her talent lies in challenging individuals to bring their creative ideas to life and empowering them to develop their unique style and voice to do so—visually.
