Jordan Thornton is a printmaker and medical illustrator, living and working in Helena, MT. Outside of her own studio practice, Jordan has created window displays for Anthropologie in NYC, worked as an arts specialist with patients and clinicians in a hospital, created illustrations for publication, shown in galleries across the country, created virtual reality surgical simulations, and managed multiple art galleries. These experiences taught her to interact with a diverse set of audiences. Drawing from her expert knowledge in multiple visual arts fields, Jordan offers two different types of residency experiences.

Relief Printmaking, Elementary-Adult:

For a fine art focused residency, Jordan will introduce students to the unique and community-centered medium of relief printmaking. This residency can be tailored to fit most ages. Students will be given a presentation to introduce them to both the artist and printmaking, followed by demonstrations and creating their own works of art. Projects can include a print exchange between students, collaborative book making, and, for longer residencies, a collaborative quilt.

Visual Art for STEM Learning, Intermediate-Adult:

For those interested in how science and art can work together in an artist residency, Jordan can work with educators on creating collaboration opportunities between STEM classes and the visual arts. This residency gives students the tools they need to create their own visual learning aids through observational drawing and creating infographics. Students will learn how to identify learning objectives and how to use the principals and elements of design in their projects. The visual art for STEM learning residency is best for smaller groups.
