Artist Opportunities

The South Dakota Arts Council (SDAC) helps make quality arts accessible throughout the state by providing grants to South Dakota nonprofit organizations and artists. These grants are funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of South Dakota.

Applications open January 1, 2026. Applicants should begin the process by visiting SDAC’s Applicant Portal [LINKED HERE].

Art for State Buildings An opportunity for visual artists is the Art for State Buildings Program. The program is a result of State statute 1-22-10, which stipulates that state buildings should include works of art for public display. The statute was funded by the State Legislature in 2007 when Governor Michael Rounds recommended an annual $20,000 budget to purchase art, creating a State Art Collection. [linked here]
